Neftali Eunice Romero

Professional Development Director

I graduated from Humboldt State University(HSU) as an Environmental Resources Engineer(Civil) with a focus on water resources. As an undergraduate student I was a part of ten students who are the founding members of the HSU SHPE Chapter. After becoming an established chapter, I became the Academic Liaison and President in hopes of providing resources to students to help them be successful in the engineering program. At HSU I assisted with the development of an engineering tutoring program to provide students with academic support and assist in informal mentoring opportunities. I also assisted with the application for the Hispanic Serving Institute STEM Grant ” Vías hacia la Excelencia Académica,” by the U.S. Department of Education, which awarded HSU with a $3.9 million grant. The impact I made at HSU has instilled the importance of being involved in an organization that empowers the Latinx and Hispanic community in STEM; thus, I am eager to be the Professional Development Director of SHPE SF Bay Area. As the Professional Development Director, I hope to provide the resources needed to better the Latinx and Hispanic engineering community by hosting events that assist in developing the skills needed to build your own brand, establish yourself in your field, and build the network required to be a force to be reckoned with. Please feel free to reach out to me if you are interested in telling your own success story to the SHPE community or are interested in hosting our professional chapter at your company’s office.
