This is the third Family Science Night location the Exploratorium has picked for the 2014-2015 school year.
Activities normally cover spectroscopes, sound sandwiches, buzzing bees, gyrocopters, and even slime!
Never gets boring seeing the faces of kids light up with these cool mini-activities.
As a reminder, the Exploratorium staff normally takes the lead. We normally work directly with the kids assisting them with these experiments. Lots of kids and their parents attend these nights. The interest is definitely there.

SHPE SFBA Board
This is the second out of four locations the Exploratorium has picked for a Family Science Night.
This particular location got rescheduled due to last month's weather. Let's help inspire kids to pursue a STEM-related field of study at this location on March 12th. These events only take up an hour of your time.
SHPE-SFBA will be hosting our very own Noche De Ciencias (only it's actually in the morning) on Saturday February 28, 2015 at the DeLue Boys & Girls Club from 10AM-3:30PM. We are targeting 100 High Schoolers/MIddle Schoolers from schools from all over (Terra Nova, Jefferson, Westmoor, Leadership, Balboa, etc).
Teens and parents will be separated into their corresponding workshops. There will also be a College Fair after lunch for the teens and parents to feel free to roam around and ask questions. We need volunteers for registration, lunch distribution, clean up, teen engineering hands-on activities, and for the parent workshops. Kermit Lucena (SHPE-SFBA Secretary) is in charge of the Parent Workshops and I have the task of the Teen Workshops.
This is a great way to spend a Saturday. Lunch will be provided to the volunteers. Please let me know if any questions come up. I will be posting the updates here.
Many challenges exist in job hunting and general job searching that can lead to stress and uncertainty. Using his design thinking experience to talk about innovation in the job search, Mr. Eric Ellis has the vision of what are the key elements in landing that job you are dreading for. Some of the topics to be discussed in this professional development event include: What is innovation, how do candidates respond to employers in the modern workforce, what are the expectations of employers in the 21st century, planning and preparation to be a candidate who can successfully land a job, etc.
Bring your resume for feedback and to how to fix it so you increase the chances of getting what you want. He will also discuss possible opportunities at PG&E.
Come join your SHPE SFBA Chapter for our Membership Mixer. This event is geared for you to come out and connect with other members from our chapter. This is a great way to meet new professionals and reconnect with old friends. You will also learn about what your officers have planned for this upcoming year. We hope to see you there!
